(Stamford, CT – February 22, 2018) –
Chelsea Piers Connecticut is pleased to announce the launch of the
Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund (CPSF). This fund is committed to
providing Fairfield County children in need with the opportunity to
experience the enormous benefits and enjoyment of participation in
athletics.
The Sky Rink Youth Scholarship Fund, was founded at Chelsea Piers New
York in 1994 and was followed in 1996 by the Chelsea Piers Scholarship
Fund, an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The
two funds together have awarded nearly $3 million in scholarships to
thousands of children to participate in summer sports camps,
competitive teams and cover team travels expenses. Now the Board of the
CPSF has agreed to expand its’ fundraising scholarship efforts to
Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
Chelsea Piers believes participating in sports helps children gain
self-confidence and self-esteem, develop social skills, learn
sportsmanship and teamwork, set and achieve goals, and learn from
positive role models. All children, regardless of their family's
financial situation, should be given an opportunity to learn and grow
through sports. Sports have a huge range of positive benefits among
children and adolescents but many young people are unable due to a lack
of financial resources to pursue athletics.
With the newly established Scholarship Fund for Chelsea Piers
Connecticut, young athletes will be awarded annual financial aid to
pursue summer camps and competitive and travel teams.
“Coming into our sixth year, Chelsea Piers is grateful to extend such a
remarkable program to our facility in Connecticut,” commented Greta
Wagner, Executive Director of Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “It is also
exciting to announce the Scholarship Fund in advance of Fairfield
County’s annual Giving Day. It’s such a wonderful day for
Fairfield County and we are thrilled to be joining in the celebration.
We are hoping to raise a minimum of $50,000 on Giving Day which Chelsea
Piers Connecticut will match with our own donation.”
In addition to matching all Giving Day donations, Chelsea Piers
Management will provide a 20% discount on all CPSF sponsored programs
and provide critical administrative assistance free of charge.
Over the past 5 years, Chelsea Piers Connecticut has provided over
$400,000 in tuition assistance to competitive team players in financial
need. With the launch of the CPSF in Connecticut, the goal is to
offer scholarships to as many qualified applicants as possible.
The CPSF will continue to work with the Boys and Girls Club, Starfish
Connection and other local social service organizations to identify
children in Fairfield County who will benefit from participation in
sports programs and camps at Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
