Nick Matthew Ready For $115K Chicago Windy City Open from PSA Media
February 24, 2014
- Squash World No.1 Nick Matthew says he is looking forward to
competing in the 2014 METROsquash Windy City Open in Chicago when his
campaign gets underway against a qualifier on Wednesday February 26. The Windy City Open is
returning to the PSA World Series for the first time since 2007 and
Matthew, who last competed in Chicago in 2006 when he lost to
compatriot James Willstrop in the quarter-finals, is aiming to build on
last month’s Swedish Open victory and further strengthen his hold on
the World No.1 ranking. “Any World Series
event is one that you want to win and it’s great to have a new event
join the World Series calendar,” said Matthew. “It’s been a while
since I’ve been to Chicago but it’s a great city and there’s always a
great vibe there and the university is a real grand old club. “The glass court,
which is in the Cathedral hall, is one that always looks great on
photos and has really good acoustics with an enjoyable atmosphere so
it’s good to be going back. “I won there back in
2004 playing against Greg Gaultier and that was a good experience for
me and I’ve got lots of friends in the city who I’m looking forward to
seeing as well.” The 2014 METROsquash
Windy City Open presented by Guggenheim and EquiTrust Life Insurance
takes place at the University Club of Chicago from February 26 to March
3.
