US Against the World in Missouri a Lot of Fun by Amanda Sobhy
February 24, 2016
- This past weekend we were treated to a enjoyable invitational event
at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis where the format was set up
as a mini team event called “The US” vs. “The World”: Olivia Blatchford
and yours truly on “The US” while Line Hansen from Denmark and Joelle
King from New Zealand were on “The World”. Saturday was the first round
of matches with Olivia beating Joelle King in a tough 5 gamer while I
took out Line Hansen in 3 to put the US up 2-0 after day 1. After
signing autographs, taking photos, and talking to the members, us
ladies got treated to a nice gathering with the members of the club for
some drinks (non-alcoholic for us) and delicious hors d’oeuvres (best
chicken wings ever). We loved interacting with the members outside of
the courts when we aren’t covered in sweat and decked out in athletic
gear, so it was really nice to have a gathering after the matches
Saturday. Sunday, play started a little earlier with Olivia and Line
playing at 11am while Joelle and I played at 12. With mimosas and
bloody marys on site, the audience was definitely in for an
entertaining Sunday. Line took the first match for “The World” in a 4
game victory over Olivia, while I sealed the win for “The US” win a 4
game victory over Joelle. Even though this weekend felt a bit more like
summer than winter, there was still a solid boisterous crowd in
attendance both days to watch us battle it out on court.
A
Huge thank you to Adam Bews and the Missouri Athletic Club for inviting
us out here to St. Louis to partake in the Invitational. On behalf of
the PSA ladies, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here in the Midwest and
loved meeting the members and hitting with the adults and juniors. The
hospitality was fantastic and we hope you enjoyed watching us play (and
my USA outfits) just as much as we enjoyed playing for you. I can
definitely tell you that we look forward to coming back again to St.
Louis to play some more squash and to eat some ribs!
