Trinity Men Beat No 4 St Lawrence 6-3 by David Kingsley

- Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore Juan Vargas (Bogota, Colombia) won the
deciding match, 3-0, in the No. 4 spot to lead the Trinity College
Bantams past the visiting St. Lawrence University Saints in men's
squash action this afternoon at Kellner Center. Top-ranked Trinity
improves to 16-1, rebounding from its first loss since 2012 on Tuesday
against No. 2-ranked Harvard. The Saints, ranked No. 4 nationally, fall
to 10-3 with their first loss in three matches. Trinity should secure
the No. 2 seed in next weekend's College Squash Association (CSA)
National Championships (Potter Trophy) at Harvard.
Juniors Vrishab Kotian
(Mumbai, India) and Moustafa Hamada (Old Bridge, N.J.) gave Trinity a
2-1 lead after the first wave with wins at No. 3 and No. 6,
respectively. Sophomore Zeyad Elshorafy (Alexandria, Egypt) won
quickly, 3-0, in the No. 5 match, and senior captain No. 8 Matthew
Mackin (Greenwich, Conn.) won, 3-1, for a 4-2 Trinity advantage after
two waves. Kotian won the fifth Trinity point, 11-1, 12-10, 11-7, and
rookie Affeeq Ismail (Kuching, Malaysia) won a five-setter at No. 7 to
round out the Bantam scoring.
