- Former US team member Gilly Lane, who retired from competitive play
in December 2011, came out of nowhere yesterday to engineer one of the
more stunning upsets in recent American squash, as he knocked off
eight-time US champion Julian Illingworth 11-6 in the fifth to advance
to the US Nationals final in Connecticut.
The linescore for Lane was 7-11 11-7 11-9 7-11 11-6.
Lane's last competitive action prior to this weekend was in August 2011 at the World Team Championships.
He retired ranked #97 in the world by the PSA. Illingworth is currently ranked 34th.
In the bottom semi, PSA veteran Chris Gordon schooled #1 collegiate American Todd Harrity in three, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7.
