Dateline March 10th ---
Hope Nichols Prockop and Amanda Sobhy will be singing the national
anthem prior to the start of the NHL hockey game tonight at 7 PM
between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes at the TD Garden. The
game will be broadcast by the New England Sports Network (NESN), with
the pre-game program starting at 6:30.
Sobhy,
the reigning US National and Intercollegiate Individuals champion and
current World No. 7, and Prockop, the 2015 British Open and US National
45+ Champion, will take center ice and deliver their 90-second duet.
This pair, Harvard squash captains of Howe Cup championship teams in
1990 and 2015 respectively, have previously sung the anthem during
squash tournaments at venues such as Boston's Symphony Hall and the
Tournament of Champions in New York, and both will be competing as well
this weekend at the U. S. Nationals at Harvard’s Murr Center, where the
top-seeded Sobhy will attempt to defend her 2015 title. Three other
Crimson players past and present --- Haley Mendez, 2014 Nationals
champion Sobrina Sobhy and Kayley Leonard --- are also in the
eight-player draw, along with second seed Olivia Blatchford, recent
Dartmouth alumna Corey Schafer and Penn star Reeham Sedky, fresh off a
run to the final of the Intercollegiate Individual tournament this past
weekend.
This incredible opportunity to sing
the national anthem came about because both players benefit from the
good work of sports massage therapist Colleen Carney, owner of Back in
Motion, who treats amateur and professional athletes and members of the
Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox. Tickets to the game can be purchased
at www.bruins.nhl.com.
