Ashour Extends World Series Standings Lead

15 March 2013 - With maximum points from the first three PSA World Series squash events of the year, Egypt's Ramy Ashour heads the latest 2013 Dunlop PSA World Series Standings - with more than double the total of his nearest rival!

The world number one from Cairo emphasised his status as the sport's most dominant figure by beating English rival James Willstrop, the world No4 and defending champion from England, in Thursday's final of the PSA Kuwait Cup to collect his sixth World Series title in a row.

The 25-year-old's triumph established a clutch of stunning statistics: It was his 45th PSA World Tour final; his seventh title in a row; the 30th of his career; and it extended his winning streak to 36 matches since May last year - an achievement not rivalled since the golden era of Pakistanis Jansher Khan and Jahangir Khan two decades ago.

Willstrop's success in Kuwait moves the 29-year-old from Leeds up to second place, sharing the position with Frenchman Gregory Gaultier, a semi-finalist at the Qadsia Sporting Club in Kuwait.

England's Nick Matthew slips to fourth place, with Egypt's Karim Darwish holding onto fifth position.

Egyptians figure strongly at the top of the list, with sixth place shared by Amr Shabana and Mohamed El Shorbagy, the 22-year-old from Alexandria whose unexpected semi-final berth in Kuwait moves him up from 13th place.

The top eight players in the Dunlop PSA World Series Standings at the end of the year qualify to compete in next January's ATCO PSA World Series Finals in London.
