John Lau's University Club Of San Francisco Launches 'Open-Door' Doubles Round Robin Play
March 25, 2013
- Doubles Squash has been called "The King of Racquet Sports".
Players who play it at our club for the first time always finish a
match with a big wide grin and exclaim, "That was really fun! When can
I play again?"
A few days go by, you want to play again, but you realize that you
won't be able to play regularly unless you become a member of our
club.
And therein lies the problem.
The players at the University Club are very much aware of this
conundrum and we want to do our part to bring new players into the
sublime game of Doubles Squash.
So starting on May 5th and for six weeks thereafter, the University
Club will host Bay Area squash players for weekly Squash Doubles Round
Robin play.
The format is simple:
- Wednesday Evening from 5:00 - 7:00pm both doubles courts will be reserved for A Round Robin play.
- Thursday Evening from 5:00 - 7:00pm both doubles courts will be reserved for B Round Robin play.
- Enrolled players will get a notice every Monday morning from me
asking whether or not one is available to play on the Wednesday or
Thursday of that week. I shall then put together games based on
the number of replies I receive and notices will be sent out to the
players with the day and time of when they play.
A maximum 16 players can be accommodated for each Round Robin day. Complimentary beverages will be available post game.
Round Robin play is available to members and non-members alike.
Members are eligible to play at no fee to them. There will be a
fee of $120.00 fee for non-members which will cover the entire 6 weeks
of play.
The Doubles Round Robin Play is a trial run. If it is successful, the club will reprise the event during the summer.
