MacAulay Wins in PST Philadelphia Debut from Tour Media
March 24, 2014 - Scotland's Jamie MacAulay won his PST debut in thrilling fashion over Mustafa Nabil of Egypt in a 58 minute final. Game scores were 12-10, 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9. MacAulay and Nabil
both were making their PST debut this past weekend. The Scotsman had
represented Scotland in international play for seven years. Now based
in Philadelphia, he decided to compete on the PST. Nabil is from Alexandria, Egypt and traveled to the U.S. to compete in PST tournaments. Games one and two were
fast paced and cleanly played. With both players winning a 12-10 game,
fans were enjoying the competition and the intensity. Game three saw the
players finding each other's body more frequently. Game went to Nabil
11-8, and it appeared like the younger, fresher legs of the Egyptian
were starting to take their toll on the veteran Scotsman.
In game four MacAulay
added more lobs to his rallies and looked to adjust the tempo of play.
It worked as he jumped out to a 6-2 lead and won game four 11-7. It was Nabil who was
able to impose his will in game 5 and control the pace of play early as
he jumped to a 5-2 lead. But MacAulay patiently clawed back. With both
players fighting for position, a loose elbow caught MacAulay in the
nose. He required a brief moment to attend to it. The match had the
players requesting decisions from the referee on 19 different
occasions. On five occasions, the referee chose to have the rally
replayed (let ball). With MacAualy serving
at 10-9, both players were fighting intently. With a loose ball from
MacAulay, Nabil appealed to the referee for the point, but did not
receive the decision. Point and match to MacAaulay. Both Nabil and
MacAulay will be competing in next week's Mamaroneck Open being held at
the Westchester Squash Club in Mamaroneck, NY.
