Egypt’s
Karim Abdel Gawad has been named Male Player of the Month for March by
the London-based Squash Player magazine after winning the $70,000
Swedish Open in February.
The 24-year-old second seed
captured the most lucrative title of his career by beating close friend
Tarek Momen 3/2 in the final of the M70 event in Linköping.
He
labelled his Swedish Open success as “the biggest in my squash career
so far” and is now looking to take the next step in his career.
“It's
the biggest tournament I have ever won and this win will push me to
work [harder] and win higher tournaments,” Gawad said. “My next target
is to be in the top four soon and be more consistent.”
Gawad
trains with “all the top guys in Egypt” at the Gezira Club in Cairo. “I
am lucky to have Tarek Momen , Omar Abdel Meguid , Karim Ali and Omneya
Abdel Kawy in my club,” he said.
