Moustafa Nabil Wins PST Mamaroneck Open from Tour Media
March 30, 2014-
Moustafa Nabil (Egypt) won the Mamaroneck Open Sunday at the
Westchester Squash Club, when Jamie MacAulay (Scotland) shook his hand
midway through the third game. Game scores were 10-12, 11-5, 3-1 ret. Nabil jumped to a quick lead 10-4 lead in game one. However, MacAulay won the next eight rallies to close out the game 12-10. Game two was intense
throughout with both players sprawling to retrieve their opponents
aggressive shot making. The referee chose to have two rallies replayed
(let ball) and cautioned both players to respect the space of the other. Game two went to Nabil 11-5. Game three began just
as game two ended. Both players were quick to the ball and using all
four corners of the court. At 1-1, MacAulay sprawled to retrieve a
ball, but did not look comfortable between points. After the ensuing
point, he took a moment to walk around the court and then shook his
opponent's hand acknowledging that he was unable to continue and
conceding the match. In post match
comments, he said he entered the court with some niggling injuries.
However, a groin pull was what ultimately forced him to retire from the
match. Nabil and MacAulay had
faced each other last week in Philadelphia. In that contest, MacAulay
edged Nabil 11-9 in game five to win the tournament. This week Nabil
got his revenge, albeit not in the fashion he would have liked.
