- Chelsea Piers Connecticut will host the 2016 College Squash
Association (CSA) Men’s and Women’s Individual Championships on Friday
– Sunday, March 4 -6. The tournament will consist of single
match-ups with the top 64 college squash players in the country. With
Chelsea Piers as the host, it marks the first time that the Individual
Championships are being played at a venue other than a College Squash
Association member university or college.
The
Championships will be played on Chelsea Piers’ eleven singles courts,
which were constructed in 2012 with the opening of the facility.
Chelsea Piers will also add grandstands so that an increased amount of
spectators may watch the matches. The public is invited to purchase
tickets online in a variety of packages, ranging from one-day general
admission tickets, to full-weekend VIP passes.
The 2016 CSA
Individual Championships will feature the inaugural Past Champions
Gala, bringing back many greats of the game to celebrate. Past
Champions will attend the semi-final matches on Saturday at 5:00pm,
which will conclude with an on-court ceremony and lead into the gala.
“Chelsea
Piers Athletic Club is perfectly suited to host the best collegiate
players in the country,” commented Natalie Grainger, Squash Director at
Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “It is one of the top facilities in the
world and we have the ability to deliver high profile events utilizing
the extended spaces in the complex to the many local and national
squash fans. We are truly excited about our partnership with the
College Squash Association and presenting these prestigious
Championships.”
The change in location for the Individual
Championship coincides with a change to the format of the Men’s and
Women’s Team Championships. Traditionally, the women’s and men’s events
were held on separate and alternating weekends at the end of February.
However, for the 2016 Team Championships, the CSA will be combining the
men’s and women’s events, creating an opportunity to showcase the
Individual Championships in a new venue with marketing potential.
The
CSA Individual Championships is sponsored by Privilege Underwriters
