Mohamed Nabil Wins PST New England Open from Tour Media
Acton, MA (April 14, 2013)
- Mohamed Nabil (Egypt) beat Brad Thompson (United States) in five
games to win the New England Open on Sunday. Games scorse were 8-11,
11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8.
The tourament was hosted by the Concord Acton Squash Club in Acton, MA.
"I love this club," said PST Commissioner Joe McManus. "The gallery was
full throughout the weekend, and the players loved the enthusiastic
environment."
Nabil has not appeared in PST action as often this year as he did a
year ago when he won the Boston Open title. He has battled injuries
throughout the season and was noticably favoring a sprained ankle
throughout the weekend.
"I wanted to play," said Nabil in post match discussion. "But I knew I was hurting my ankle more."
The tournament marked a bittersweet result for Providence based
Thompson. This was his third tournament final of the season, and in
each event he came up short.
"It's tough, but I feel I played well this weekend. Beating Ryan
[Thompson] was unexpected for me," said Brad. "I really felt great
about that victory. He's so tough. I might not have had as much left in
me today."
In the third place match, local favorite and Concord Acton teaching pro
Andrew Kriete took a two games to zero advantage over Ryan Thompson.
But Thompson fought back to take the match in five games. Scorese were
13-15, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4.
