Yip Over Soliman for First PSA Tour Title from PSA Media 30TH MAR 2015
- Hong Kong’s Tsz Fung Yip fulfilled his seeding in the Malaysian Tour
Squash I when he survived the final of the PSA Challenger 5 squash
event at Royal Sri Menanti Golf & Country Club in Seremban,
Malaysia, to claim the first PSA World Tour title of his career.
The top seed reached the final, his fourth on the Tour, after fighting
back from a game down to beat Adam Murrills, the No.3 seed from
England, in the semi-finals.
His final opponent was enjoying his best-ever performance on the PSA
World Tour. Ranked outside the world top 250, 18-year-old Egyptian
Youssef Soliman battled through the qualifiers – then downed the No.4
and No.8 seeds before defeating Chi Him Wong, the seventh seed from
Hong Kong, in a dramatic five-game semi.
Honours were shared in the final after two close-fought first games –
but thereafter World No.73 Yip gained the upper hand, storming through
to a 13-15, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 victory to bag his first Tour title.
“I was happy to win my first title here in Malaysia,” said the Hong
Kong 21-year-old later. “I played well to beat Youssef who also played
well in the final.”
