Bryan Patterson Captains Second Annual Battle Of The Boros
by Andy Satchbear

April 21, 2012
- On April 19, 2012 before an enthusiastic crowd the second Battle of the Boros Invitational Squash match was played at Sports Club/LA in Manhattan New York. The visiting team captained by the venerable Bryan Patterson defeated a Manhattan team captained by SCLA pro Eddie Kapur.  Many in the audience questioned the eligibility of some of the Bronx players, but Patterson said that the minimum requirement that the players had to pass through the Bronx during the preceding 5 years was met.  He added that the Manhattan eligibility requirement that the players had to be in Manhattan on the day of the match was "tautological". He apparently learned that word secretly auditing an English class at Fordham where he is presently the squash coach.

The marque match of the night saw Andrew Grosner of the Bronx narrowly defeat Daelum Mawji.  Mawji did not comment on rumors that the PST was interested in recruiting him.  Richard Chin, the Harvard Club pro (playing for the Bronx), prevailed over Juan (he declined to give his last name).  Juan was a member of a strong CitySquash group of pros who plan a bicycle tour of the Southwest this Summer taking on several Native American squash teams in a series of exhibitions. Kapur played down the Bronx victory: "we drank more beer than they did".  Both captains issued a challenge to Queens and Brooklyn to engage in similar matches.  Patterson added that he would love to bring his team to Staten Island.

The results (several players played under assumed names to avoid the consequences of the PST/PSA controversy):

Andrew Grosner (B) defeated Andy Koff (M) 3-2
Ross Garlick (B) lost to Matt Power (M) 3-0
Quetzalli Torres (B) lost to Alan Feldman (M) 3-0
