Waller Welcomes 'Best Result Yet' In Dublin from PSA Media
April 26, 2014
- World No.26 Adrian Waller avenged two previous defeats by Scottish
champion Alan Clyne when he beat the No.4 seed in today's final of the
Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open to become the first English winner of the
PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash event at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis
Club in Dublin since the legendary Peter Nicol in 2001. But it took the No.2
seed 93 minutes to see off Clyne, ranked 11 places lower, 11-8, 10-12,
8-11, 11-7, 11-6 to win the fourth PSA Tour title of his career. “This has been my best
result yet," said the 24-year-old from Enfield as he collected his
trophy. "I set myself the goal to win this tournament, which
isn’t unrealistic as number two seed. "The top four seeds
were very strong and close together, so it’s good to get through and I
can take a lot of confidence from this." RESULTS: PSA Challenger 15 Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open, Dublin, Ireland Semi-finals: [4] Alan Clyne (SCO) bt [8] Arthur Gaskin (IRL) 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 (41m) [2] Adrian Waller (ENG) bt [3] Ryan Cuskelly (AUS) 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 (75m)
