- Wael El Hindi beat Mohamed El Sherbini 13-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-5 to win the 2012 Providence Open title played at Brown University on Sunday.

It was the first time Hindi (age 31) and Sherbini (age 19) have faced one another in a professional match. The two have a special relationship off court. The young Egyptian grew up modeling his game on the elder's. It was evident throughout the championship.

"I am used to seeing those shots," said Hindi in post game remarks. "But I am used to seeing them come off my racquet. It was very hard for me playing someone who plays just like me."

The first two games featured both players using all angles and corners of the court. By the end of game two, the level of intensity on court reached a heightened level. The players' off court friendship was suspended and a championship was in play.

Game one to Hindi 13-11. Game two to Sherbini 13-11. Game three saw Sherbini in command with a 9-5 lead when El Hindi did what Hindi does. He changed the tempo of the match. He changed the tempo of play. He didn't allow Sherbini to keep a rhythm. It worked. Hindi won six straight rallies to close out the game 11-9.

Game four was all El Hindi. He won it 11-5 and with it the Providence Open title.

In the third place match, Adrian Leanza beat Ned Marks 9-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-6.
