April 1, 2016 -
World no.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy has been named Male Player of the Month
for April by the London-based Squash Player magazine after taking his
domination of the sport to a new level in March.
The
English-based Egyptian not only won his first Windy City Open title
when England’s Nick Matthew was forced to retire at 2/0 and 1-0 down in
the Chicago final, but he also retained the British Open trophy by
beating compatriot Ramy Ashour 3/0 in the Hull final.
The
25-year-old has now won five World Series events in a row and has lost
only one PSA Tour match in 2016 – back in January to fellow Egyptian
Ali Farag at the Motor City Open.
“It’s been a crazy season
for me,” Elshorbagy commented. “Last season, when I won four World
Series titles, I was telling my mother and brother that I didn’t know
how I was going to keep up with that, but I’ve won five already, so
this is a dream for me. I’m just really proud of what I’ve been
achieving this season.”
Elshorbagy – who has also won the
Qatar Classic, Hong Kong Open and Tournament of Champions – will now
bid for a sixth consecutive World Series title at the El Gouna
International Open in his home country in April.
