Elshorbagy Breaks Rankings Record As Most Dominant Male Player Ever by Nathan Clarke
April 1, 2016 -
World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy has extended his current reign atop the
World Rankings to a fourth consecutive month, braking the record for
the highest ever points average in the process to assert his position
as the most dominant player on the PSA World Tour.
Elshorbagy
has taken the spoils at the past five consecutive PSA World Series
tournaments, winning both the Windy City Open and British Open in
March, to record a points average of 2,150.000 - almost 300 points
greater than the previous record amount of 1,872.500 set by compatriot
and three-time World Champion Ramy Ashour in April 2013.
"It has been a crazy month for me," said Elshorbagy, who finds himself over 500 points ahead of closest rival Gregory Gaultier.
"Winning
the Windy City Open in Chicago for the first time and then defending
the British Open title is amazing. It has been a crazy season.
"When
I won four World Series titles last year I didn't know if I was going
to be able to keep it up but to win five World Series tournaments in a
row is a dream and I will keep working as hard as I can to keep it
going.
"Ramy has held this record for a long time and he has
changed our game so to be able to break that record is an achievement
that I am very proud of."
After winning the Canary Wharf
Classic Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet moves up to a career high of World
No.7 inside the top ten while Egyptian Ali Farag, who defeated Nick
Matthew to reach the quarter-finals of the British Open, moves up to a
high of No.11.
Elsewhere inside the top 20 Colombian
Miguel Angel Rodriguez, Spaniard Borja Golan, Hong Kong's Max Lee and
Indian Saurav Ghosal all move up in the standings in the April PSA
World Rankings.
