Assistant Squash and Program Development
Director: Squash Haven seeks a talented, organized, and versatile
recent college graduate with strong squash playing experience for the
newly created position of Assistant Squash and Program Development
Director. This is an exciting opportunity for a multi-talented
individual to develop a wide range of management and administrative
skills while making a tremendous difference in the lives of New Haven
youth. The Assistant Director will assist the Squash Director in daily
squash and weekend tournament planning and coaching. S/he will
also be responsible for planning the community service program,
managing the Squash Haven calendar of events and volunteers, and
overseeing Squash Haven’s internal and external data. Depending
on the Assistant’s interests and future plans, s/he may also gain
experience by writing grant applications and reports and helping plan
and execute Squash Haven fundraisers.
Program Description: Founded in 2006,
Squash Haven (www.squashhaven.org) provides individually directed
academic enrichment and squash instruction to motivated and committed
New Haven public school students in fifth grade through high
school. Through intensive tuition-free academic and squash
sessions at Yale University, Squash Haven supports school success,
physical fitness, athletic excellence, and access to compelling
academic and summer opportunities. In our first six years, Squash Haven
has helped New Haven students earn 20 national-level squash
championships, 10 private-school scholarships, and cumulatively over
$400,000 annually in renewable school and summer financial aid. In
addition, team members have given over 2000 hours of service to
the New Haven community. Squash Haven currently serves 80 elementary,
middle, and high school students, and will serve 100 in grades 5-12 by
2015. For our students, Squash Haven is a year-round intensive
commitment that touches every aspect of their lives; students spend
three hours five to six days a week in program activities at Yale’s
Payne Whitney Gymnasium. Squash Haven is a 501c3 not-for-profit

School Year Schedule (Sept – mid-June):
During the school year, the work day typically begins at 10am and ends
at 7pm Monday through Friday. The Assistant Director will also work
approximately ten tournament weekends per year and should plan to be
involved with programming an average of two weekends per month.
Except in peak periods for major tournaments, the Assistant Director
will receive at least one day off per week.
Summer Schedule (mid-June – Aug): The
summer work day begins at approximately 9am and ends at 5pm. There is
little weekend work when school is out from mid-June through August.
Vacation: The position includes 6 weeks of
vacation annually: 1 in November, 1 in December, 1 in March, 1 in June,
and 2 in August. Some but not all national holidays are off.
Commitment: Expectation of a two year minimum contingent upon three and six month performance reviews
Compensation: $28,000-$32,000. Health and dental insurance contributions provided.
Start Date: September, 2013
Preferred Professional and Personal Qualifications: College varsity squash experience BA/BS from a competitive college or university Outstanding speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; adaptability, creativity, and initiative-taking Proficiency with Excel and comfort with data Experience working with children
