April WSA Rankings: Massaro Retakes No.2 After KL Triumph from WSA Media
April 2, 2013
- Laura Massaro’s second World Series win in Malaysia at the weekend
has seen the Englishwoman rise to No.2 in the WSA World Tour’s April
rankings.
The 29-year-old from Preston, England beat World No.1 Nicol David in
the semi-final, before completing the title win which has seen her
over-take Raneem El Weleily to hold the No.2 spot for the first time
since October 2012.
Alison Waters rises to fourth place after beating Nour El Sherbini on
her way to the KL Open final. The Egyptian teenager slips down a
place to No.5 with Joelle King rising to No.6, leapfrogging Low Wee
Wern.
Annie Au drops out of the Top 10 for the first time since August 2011
after failing to match her 2012 KL Open final position. She drops
to No.13, whilst Natalie Grinham rises two places to sit at No.10.
A month featuring back-to-back WSA titles for Sarah-Jane Perry has seen
the 22-year-old leap six ranking positions to break into the WSA Top20
for the first time. The Mayfair and Granite Club Open winner sits
at No.20 following an excellent March, during which she also reached
the semi-final of the inaugural CourtCare Open in Chorley,
England. Perry has risen 46 ranking places in the last twelve
months. Eventual CourtCare Open winner Emma Beddoes rises four
places to No.30.
India’s Joshana Chinappa also set a new highest ranking by reaching
No.25 in the world following a first round appearance in the KL Open,
rising two places.
