Chelsea Piers CT To Host Final Peter Nicol-Tim Garner 7-Continent Challenge by Erica Schietinger
(Stamford, CT – April 8, 2013) –
On Saturday, April 20th, Chelsea Piers Connecticut will play host to
the last leg of the 7 Continent Squash Challenge. Beginning April
13th, squash legend Peter Nicol MBE and former world #26 Tim Garner
will play seven matches in seven days on seven continents - all to
raise awareness of squash’s bid to be included in the 2020 Olympic
Games.
The Xodus 7 Continent Challenge will see Britons Garner and Nicol
travel more than 40,000 miles and spend more than 70 hours on airplanes
as they push themselves to the limits of their physical and mental
endurance.
As well as raising awareness of the Squash 2020 bid campaign, the Xodus
7 Continent Challenge will also be raising money for two charities
close to the hearts of everyone in the squash community. The Natasha
Drake Trust will help a young squash player rebuild her life after a
debilitating illness and LV-SOS Kit Aid will help give disadvantaged
people from all over the world the opportunity to play and enjoy squash.
Chelsea Piers Connecticut’s Racquets Director and current U.S. #1
player, Natalie Grainger will participate in a match during the final
stage of the competition.
“As the President of WSA for eight years, I dedicated much of my time
and resources to having squash included in the Olympic Games,”
commented Grainger. “This is a unique event that we hope will
demonstrate the high level of interest in the sport around the world
and gain squash a spot in the 2020 Olympics.”
Grainger runs the day-to-day operation of the Squash Club at Chelsea
Piers, from hiring top-level squash professionals to developing dynamic
squash programming for beginners to advanced players.
