- Moustafa Bayoumy (Egypt) beat Moustafa Nabil (Egypt) in a closely
fought 56-minute five game match to win the Canton Open this past
weekend. Nabil jumped out to a
fast 5-0 lead and then 8-2. Bayoumy, however, found his footing and won
seven of the next eight rallies to tie the score at 9-9. But after
putting in all that work to level the game it was Nabil who won the
next two rallies fairly easily, taking game one 11-9. Game two was all Bayoumy as he cruised to an 11-3 result. Game three was an
intense affair. Both players were finding each other's bodies as they
worked hard to retrieve increasingly tight shots. In a see-saw battle,
Bayoumy prevailed in extra points, winning the game 14-12. Game four witnessed
Bayoumy jumping to a quick 7-3 advantage. Nabil was struggling to pick
up brilliants shots off the racquet of Bayoumy. But this time is was
Nabil's opportunity to erase a sizable lead. He won the next eight of
nine rallies and took the game 11-9. Game five showed more
shot making from Bayoumy, but it also highlighted Nabil's fitness. He
was so quick to the ball and did not show any signs of fatigue. It was
Bayoumy's shot making that ultimately edged Nabil 11-9 in the final
stanza. Although both of these
young Egyptians grew up playing in Egypt. This tournament in America
