$30K WDSA Turner Cup Begins Today In NY, To Benefit Cancer Center from DailySquashReport.com
May 11, 2012-
The top-seeded teams of Steph Hewitt/Meredeth Quick and Narelle
Krizek/Suzie Pierrepont headline the 2012 WDSA Turner Cup which gets
underway today at the New York Athletic Club.
On behalf
of the WDSA and the Turner Cup committee I want to welcome you all the
3rd Annual $30,000 Turner Cup benefiting the Smilow Cancer Center at
the Yale Cancer Hospital. We hope you enjoy the multiple draws offered
featuring the world’s best doubles players: the $30,000 pro draw
featuring WDSA #1 Steph Hewitt/Meredeth Quick and #2 Suzie
Pierrepont/Narelle Krizek , 3 pro am draws and the Under 30 women’s
amateur draw.
We are excited this year to partner with the Smilow Cancer Center at
the Yale Cancer Hospital. Benefits from this years Turner Cup will
directly support their Breast Cancer unit. We are also honored to
recognize CNN Hero Andrea Ivory for her dedication to supporting
underprivileged women, giving them the opportunity to have free
mammograms through her foundation The Women’s Breast Health Initiative.
We hope you will take the opportunity to research both of these
important foundations.
This season marks the WDSA’s 5th year, where we kicked things off with
a new event in Philadelphia this past October, benefiting the Abramson
Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The women then
traveled to Denver and Chicago where both events benefitted local Urban
squash programs, Mile High Squash and METROsquash. After the Turner
Cup, the WDSA tour heads to Los Angeles for the 2nd Annual Crescent
Capital Open benefiting Santa Barbara School of Squash. This is the
last chance for players to qualify for the inaugural Wilson Cup at the
Elmaleh-Stanton Squash Center in Southampton, NY. This event will see
the top 16 women in action and will crown the ultimate number one
ranked team for the 2011-2012 season. We are thrilled to
have each event linked with a charity because while our mission is to
grow women’s doubles on both professional and amateur levels, we also
feel it’s important to join forces with the communities in which we
play and leave no woman behind.
We hope you all enjoy this very special weekend, especially Sunday for
Mother’s Day. While this day will be busy with brunches, squash and
time spent with those we love, please share a special prayer for the
mothers that are not with us today. I will share this day with my
sister Tarsh, knowing that my efforts both on and off the court will
help cure a disease that has affected so many of us and in particular
our mother Lynne, who lost her battle to breast cancer at the young age
of 47. She would have been proud to be a part of this event and would
have loved watching all of the squash!
Thank you to all of our sponsors and patrons, as well as US Squash.
Without our partners, this tournament would not be possible. Narelle Krizek and the Turner Cup Committee
