Amanda Sobhy Wins London-Based Squash Player Magazine's Player of the Month Award from Tour Media
Wednesday, 13th May, 2015
- American Amanda Sobhy has been named Player of the Month for May by
the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine for her victory
in the Texas Open.
The world no.10 recently finished playing college squash – she
graduates from Harvard University on May 28 – and her main aim now is
to challenge those players in the professional Women’s Squash
Association Tour’s top five.
The 21-year-old, who hails from Long Island, has certainly started the
right way, having beaten world no.5 Nour El Tayeb in the final of the
Texas Open in April to win the biggest tournament of her career.
“It was my first win as an actual professional,” she said. “My next
target is to play the larger tournaments and to really challenge those
in the top five as well.
“I've gotten some good results against the players ranked 5-9, but now my goal is to move into the single digits.”
The US national champion, who is coached by Thierry Lincou and Shahid
Zaman, is currently finalising where in Boston she wants to base
herself and train.
“Obviously there are so many clubs in Boston to play out of, plus the
Harvard courts, so I'm not too worried about finding a club to play
at,” she said.
