May 14, 2012 - Ottawa's Sam Cornett beat top-seeded Line Hansen of Denmark, Seattle's amazing 39-year-old Latasha Khan took care of Kylie Lindsay of New Zealand, and Toronto-based Maria Toor Pakay staged a dramatic 11-7 in the fifth win over England's Emily Whitlock today to propel all three North Americans into the rarified air of the British Open main draw.

Steve Cubbins reports:

Over at St George's Hill the women's qualifying finals saw three significant upsets as Canadian Sam Cornett beat top-seeded Dane Line Hansen 3/1, Pakistan's Maria Toor Pakay overcame European Junior Champion Emily Whitlock in five games, and Sarah-Jane Perry took out qualifying second seed Aisling Blake in four games.
Pakay got the 'plum' draw, as she goes forward to meet top seed, defending champion, world number one Nicol David in the last match of the first round tomorrow night.
