Canada Announces Men's Team for June World Championships by Danny Da Costa May 13, 2013 - OTTAWA (ON)
– Squash Canada announced today its team for the 2013 Men’s World Team
Squash Championships which is taking place in Mulhouse, France from
June 9 – 15th, 2013. The 2013 Canadian Team is comprised
of: Shahier Razik of Toronto, Shawn Delierre of Montreal, David
Letourneau of Calgary and Dane Sharp of Toronto. The team will be
coached by Yvon Provencal of Montreal.
The team will be lead by veteran players Shawn Delierre & Shahier
Razik who both qualified as a result of their top 60 professional
rankings. Delierre, the 38th ranked player in the world, recently
captured his first Canadian Squash Championship defeating Dane Sharp in
the final. Delierre has been a member of Squash Canada’s National
Team for over 10 years representing Canada at the Commonwealth, Pan
American and World Team Championships. The former top 20 Razik,
now ranked 50 in the world, has battled injuries for most of this
year. Shahier Razik a 6-time Canadian Champion has been one of
Canada’s most recognizable squash players and has been part of Squash
Canada’s National Team for over 15 years.
Letourneau & Sharp qualified through the National Team Selection
Trials which wrapped up on May 9th in Montreal. David Letourneau
won both the pre-qualifying Selection Trials event and the final
National Team Selection Trials events to earn his spot on the
team. At the recently completed National Team Selection Trials,
Letourneau, defeated Dane Sharp 3-2 and Andrew Schnell 3-2 to qualify,
while, Sharp defeated Graeme Schnell 3-0 and Andrew Schnell 3-2 (11-9
in the 5th and final game) to seal his spot on Team Canada.
