Rodriguez Romps To Second Sporta Success by Howard Harding 14 May 2013
- Four years after clinching the Torneo Internacional PSA Sporta title
for the first time, Colombian squash star Miguel Angel Rodriguez was
again back on the winner's podium after upsetting South African Stephen
Coppinger in the final of the PSA World Tour International 25 event at
Sporta in the Guatemala capital Guatemala City.
The third seed from Bogota made his breakthrough in the semi-finals,
dismissing event favourite Laurens Jan Anjema in four games.
Now celebrating the 30th PSA Tour final appearance of his illustrious
career, world No23 Rodriguez faced the in-form Coppinger, ranked five
places higher.
Both players are currently coached by Australia's US-based former world champion David Palmer.
It was only the pair's second meeting - the first being on Rodriguez's
home soil last September when the local hero secured a four-game
victory in the Colombian Open semi-finals.
Coppinger was after revenge - but again it was the Colombian who
prevailed, winning 11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 11-0 to claim the 22nd PSA Tour
title of his career.
