- Marwan ElShorbagy will reunite with Millfield School. He will attend
the School's summer squash camps, which consist of a junior elite
course from 1-5 August followed by the first school three day adult
camp.
Marwan completed his studies at Millfield in 2011, but
has been back to train with Ian Thomas the Director of squash and give
presentations about his squash journey. This will be his debut in
England as a summer coach.
Thomas is excited about
ElShorbagy's return, having worked with him on a daily basis during his
four years at school. "I admired his ability to maximise his training
sessions, with athletes of different ages and abilities. He knew once
the day is over, you can never get it back."
"Marwan had to
show huge mental strength, when he had to qualify for selection for
Egypt's U17 team at the British Junior Open Championship. Returning
from England to Egypt to play nine matches in as many days, he won all
nine. He went on to win his first British title. It was the platform
that gave him confidence to believe. It was apparent then that he would
become a top professional player."
"Marwan won all the
remaining major junior events, including British Junior open U19
Championship and two World Junior Championships, joining an ultra elite
group and becoming the first brothers in squash history to accomplish
this great feat."
" Marwan is an infectious character. He
will bring fun to all sessions, but at the same time he will share his
vast wealth of experience and knowledge in all facets of the game."
"With
an attention to detail in all aspects of training, the camp
participants will engage with Marwan in practices and a variety of game
situations throughout the course."
ElShorbagy will reunite
with old school friends Petr Martin, now a professional coach running
an academy in Prague, Mike Harris, head coach at Exeter Golf and
Country Club. Carrie Ramsey, former world no 59, who is now a level
three coach, budding professional Miles Jenkins, Thomas himself and
Graham Williams, Head of strength and conditioning, who has worked with
squash players for a number of years, including 2013 British U19
champion Angus Gillams.
