Southern Californians Celebrate New Court in San Gabriel Valley by Bob Hanscom
May 15, 2013
- Just a little over 24 hours before the BIG celebration of finally
having a squash-court available to learn, practice and play squash on
in the San Gabriel Valley, especially for those living in Pasadena, San
Marino and South Pasadena.
Of course, the evening is not only to celebrate the new court, but also
to help the 2020 Squash Back The Bid campaign in an effort of having
squash become an Olympic sport at the 2020 Summer Games. The first of
two IOC Executive Committee votes will come in just twelve days...May
29th, where they will recommend three sports to their General Assembly,
which meets in September, where only one sport will be voted in. Let's
all hope it's SQUASH!
Tomorrow night's squash party, squash-court dedication and ribbon
cutting will feature a special gift to all attending, "meet and greet",
a great BBQ with all the fixings, Margarita's for the adults, soft
drinks for the kids, entertainment by the outstanding jazz key-board
artist Chip Smith, junior squash play - and exhibition games between
Ronen Goldberg, five-time Israeli national champion, Maccabiah Game
Gold Medalist - and Al Preston, former Professional Squash Association
(PSA) tour player.
The event will take place at the lovely Arroyo Seco Racquet Club, 920
Lohman Lane, South Pasadena, CA 91030 beginning at 6 p.m. We hope to
see you, the kids and all your friends (squash or not) there tomorrow
night.
