Squash Canada To Celebrate 100th Anniversary Of Canadian Squash Championships by Danny Da Costa
April 30, 2012 - OTTAWA (ON) –
White Oaks Conference Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario,
will host the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Squash Championships
from May 2 – 6th, 2012. The event, which features 300 players
from all over Canada and various parts of the United States competing
for a chance to win the Canadian National Championship title in the
Men’s & Women’s Open Events, the A, B and C Divisions and the age
category Men’s & Women’s Masters Events from 30+ to 70+ events age
categories.
The annual Canadian National Championships has historically served as a
celebration of Canadian Squash. The event will showcase the sport
which Forbes Magazine described as the “world’s healthiest
sport”.
This year’s Men’s & Women’s Open events will be webcasted live from Squash Canada’s website

The first Canadian Squash Championship was played in 1912 at the
Montreal Racquets Club. The first Canadian Championship was won
by Kenneth Molson of Montreal. Previous winners of the Canadian
Squash Championship include: Former World Champion and 8 time Canadian
National Champion Jonathon Power, Graham Ryding, Gary Waite, Shahier
Razik and current Squash Canada Performance Director Jamie
Hickox. Former winners of the Women’s Championship include:
Marnie Baizley, Melanie Jans, Alana Miller and 11-time winner Heather
Wallace who won consecutive women’s titles from 1987 –
1997. The defending champions in the Men’s & Women’s
Open Divisions are Shahier Razik of Toronto, Ontario and Miranda
Ranieri of Waterloo, Ontario.
This year’s top seeds in the $10,000 Open Division are defending
Champion Shahier Razik of Toronto who is ranked #29 in the World on the
Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Rankings and Samantha
Cornett of Ottawa, Ontario who is ranked #37 in the world on the
Women’s Squash Association (WSA) World Rankings. The Number 2 seeds are
Shawn Delierre the 2011 Men’s Open Finalist from Montreal, Quebec and
Miranda Ranieri the 2011 Women’s Open Champion of Waterloo,
Ontario.
Matches begin Wednesday, May 2nd with the Men’s and Women’s Open and A
division with final matches being held on Saturday, May 5th. All
other division finals will be held on Sunday, May 6th. “We are

Canada. There will be some truly inspiring matches being played
at White Oaks over these dates. We’ve also brought in a fantastic
new glass court for our final matches which really amplifies the
viewing and raises the excitement for both spectators and players”

Friday May 4th, 2012 – All Divisions begin 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. Open Division Semi Finals 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Saturday May 5th, 2012 – All Divisions begin 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Open Division Finals 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Sunday May 6th, 2012 – All Age Group Masters Events, Companion Events Finals begin 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
