Another
"East versus West" U.S. Squash, junior squash-player/tournament
controversy is brewing! How about this! Out of ONLY five JCT (Junior
Championship Tour) events taking place across the country during the
junior squash-playing season...FOUR are being held on the
east-coast...and only ONE on the west-coast! The JCT schedule includes:
September 9th / Cincinnati OH; October 5th / Philadelphia, PA; November
16 / Baltimore, MD; January 19 / Redwood City, CA; February 16 /
Allston, MA. It seems that there are more junior squash-players on the
east-coast than are on the west-coast! Okay...but how about those
west-coast junior players who are able to make the JCT draws and want
to play in those tournaments!? What are they and their parents (maybe
their coaches too) supposed to do...take a day off from school and
work, pay for flights, make and pay for accommodations...all to attend
and play these important junior squash events!? We don't believe the
U.S. junior squash-playing community are (all) millionaires and made of
money! No...this "imbalance" of east versus west junior squash should
be looked at and re-examined! To quote an interested party from the
west coast: "Perhaps there should be some dialogue between U.S. Squash
and west coast junior squash organizations', representatives and
tournament directors. Our guess is that there is a strong feeling of
bias towards the east-coast (players and tournaments) and a lack of
interest and assistance in growing the game out here. Unless west coast
representatives express this, come up with ideas...and US Squash is
willing to listen...then nothing will change!"
East versus West!?
