May 27, 2015
- Unseeded Dutch player Milou van der Heijden produced the only upset
in today's first round of the Women's HKFC International 25 when she
defeated eighth seed Misaki Kobayashi to secure an unexpected place in
the quarter-finals of the WSA International 25 squash event at Hong
Kong Football Club in Happy Valley, Hong Kong.
Ranked three places ahead of the reigning Dutch champion, Japanese
number one Kobayashi opened up a one-game lead over van der Heijden.
But the world No.40 from Eindhoven fought back to establish a 2/1 lead
- then recovered from losing the fourth to close out the match 6-11,
13-11, 11-3, 4-11, 11-7 in 50 minutes.
"Beat Misaki Kobayashi (Jap) in the first round today," the victorious
24-year-old told her Twitter followers. "Happy to win in five. Tomorrow
I play former world no. 2 Jenny Duncalf (Eng) in the quarterfinal!"
Duncalf, the third seed denied 42-year-old Latasha Khan a place in the
last eight when she beat the US qualifier 11-4, 12-10, 11-2.
Local stars Annie Au and Joey Chan will meet in the next round to
ensure Hong Kong interest in the semi-finals. Top seed Au beat
compatriot Carmen Lee 11-1, 11-4, 11-5, while Chan, the fifth seed,
also took out a fellow countrywoman in a 12-10, 11-2, 11-4 defeat of
