Daily Squash Report Celebrates 5th Anniversary by Ted Gross
The DSR Newsroom
May 1, 2016
- There have been a few bumps in the road, but it feels awfully nice to
be celebrating the fifth anniversary of Daily Squash Report.
When
Rob Dinerman and I tossed around the idea for the site and then posted
two articles on April 30th, 2011, little did we know that DSR would
still be standing 1767 editions and over 16,000 postings later.
The
site has been produced since the beginning in a utility room in the
back of my house. It’s a cozy place to work, especially at night, and I
still marvel at the basics of modern technology when I receive a
tournament report from another continent at deadline, photos included,
and then boom, a few minutes later everything is converted and posted.
And hopefully enjoyed.
Early
on, to justify what I was doing every night, I told my family I was
putting out sort of a newspaper. They began referring to it as the
'paper', as in 'Oh, now I get why he's so grumpy, he hasn't finished
his paper'. It's ironic of course that my kids have rarely held a
real newspaper, but the term has stuck, and that's not the worst thing.
Will DSR be around in another five years?
The smart money would say no. I say let’s give it a shot. It's been a pleasure.
