May 29, 2015
- Egypt’s Mazen Hesham has been named Player of the Month for June by
the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine for his thrilling
performances at the British Open in May.
The talented 21-year-old seems sure to improve hiscurrent world ranking
of 32nd , after reaching the quarter-finals of a PSA World Series event
for the first time in Hull by beating world no.9 Omar Mosaad, his
compatriot.
Hesham, who had never previously made it past the qualifying stages of
the ‘Wimbledon of squash’, only found himself in the main draw of the
$150,000 tournament after the withdrawal of four-time world champion
Amr Shabana.
He said of his victory over Mosaad, in which he rallied from 2/1 down
to win 3/2: "This is one of the biggest wins of my career. It's the
second time I have beaten a top-10 player and it's an awesome feeling -
but it's also a little emotional because I know him so well.”
