Seth & Naughton Score Upsets To Advance To Canadian Nationals Semis by Danny Da Costa May 2 2013 - MARKHAM (ON)
– The semi-finals are set at the Canadian Squash Championships;
Montreal’s Shawn Delierre will take on Calgary’s Andrew Schnell in one
semi, while Toronto’s Dane Sharp will take on former Canadian junior
champion Cameron Seth of Elora, Ontario in the other.
Cameron Seth advanced to his first Canadian Squash Championship
semi-finals by upsetting #7 seed Thomas Brinkman of Manitoba 13-11,
2-11, 11-9, 13-11. Seth will now take on #3 seed Dane Sharp of
Toronto who defeated David Letourneau of Toronto 11-6, 11-6,
11-8. In other quarterfinal matches, Shawn Delierre the
tournament #1 seed, defeated Michael McCue of Sudbury 11-9, 11-6, 11-8
while, the Schnell brothers Andrew and Graeme squared off with Andrew
Schnell coming out on top 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-9.
On the women’s side, #1 seed Samantha Cornett of Ottawa, cruised past
Alix Younger of Winnipeg, 11 – 5, 11-5, 11-1, she will take on Nikki
Todd of Regina who defeated fellow Saskatchewan player Jaycee Spagrud
9-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3. In other quarterfinal matches, #2 seed
Alex Norman of Montreal defeated Seanna Keating of Toronto in four
games 11-7, 11-9. 7-11, 11-2, while, the recently crowned U19 Canadian
Squash Champion Hollie Naughton of Oakville upset #4 seed Susie King of
Calgary 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.
Samantha Cornett will take on Nikki Todd in one semi, while, Hollie Naughton will square off with Alex Norman in the other.
The Canadian Squash Championships are the National Championship of
squash in Canada. Participants compete across eight age categories and
four open divisions with the winners of the men’s and women’s open
divisions crowned as National Champions.
