Squash Canada Celebrates 100 Years During the SHOP.CA Canadian Squash Championships by Danny Da Costa

– Squash Canada's 100th anniversary was celebrated in Toronto this past
weekend, as part of the Shop.Ca 2015 Canadian Squash Championships
hosted at the National Squash Academy. Over 350 attendees enjoyed a
spectacular evening of dinner and dancing at the Centennial Ball, where
the history of squash in Canada was celebrated.
Eight Wall of Fame Inductees were honoured as part of the event in
Player, Coach, Official and Builder Categories. A special presentation
of Squash Canada’s Platinum President Award was given to Jonathon
Power, who spoke to the crowd of his illustrious career and inspired
many athletes in attendance.
Canada’s Minister of State (Sport), The Honorable Bal Gosal was also in
attendance on Saturday, and addressed the crowd regarding the
Government of Canada’s continued support of amateur sport across the
country and his involvement with Squash Canada Wall of Fame Inductee
Anne Smith, a Past-President of Squash Canada and current Board Member
of the World Squash Federation also presented a speech on squash in
Canada’s past and its promising future.
