- We were still getting over the Grand Canyon at breakfast, but onwards
we had to go! Slight complication in that Al Boillot was leaving us and
had to be taken to Las Vegas! James drove, Karina and Sidd were
passengers. They left very early and the plan was to catch us all up on
Route 66 at Hackberry.
We packed up and got onto the road, the Mother Road, which was right
there, thankfully. Hackberry Gereral Store was a hard riding aprox 30+
miles and no breaks with the van. But we made it, well Mark myself and
Cristian found the store very easily, as it was right there on the side
of the road!! Jeremy rode straight by, obviously in the zone and
focused on doing the miles. We had to ask some Harley Davidson riders
to catch him and tell him to come back. Which they did, and Jeremy rode
back to the store. Too bad Jerry!
The store was truly a treasure cave of very old bric-brac, with all the
trimmings. Old cars, old gas pumps that you would have had to pump
yourself, old engines, a great café that was straight out of the 50s.
Again we say a guy wearing a New York T, so we asked him where he was
from, thinking that he might be from NYC. Nope Brazil and traveling
with a small group on Harleys along 66.
The van arrived with Sidd chomping at the bit to ride again. We told
him that he would have to wait for another day. We wanted to be sure
that he was ok and ready to ride. Karina Giselle was up for it, after
sitting in the van for over 3 hours, and getting over her nose bleed.
On we rode. It was getting more pleasant, not quite so hot, more
clouds, well a few more and the landscape had changed. There were more
trees, and it was getting more green and cattle on the plains.
BUT once again Route 66 let us down, disappearing under the concrete of
Highway 40! Thwarted once again we filled the van with the bikes and
made our way to Seligamam, where once again we met up with Shin – this
man is a rider, no doubt about that.
We were recommended a café for dinner and we invited Shin to come join
us. Which he did. He was riding on his own which must be tough so I
really think that he enjoyed our company and I think he was getting
used to James’ British humour, just!!
