Rex Hedrick def Jason Mudge 11-8, 6-11, 11-2, 11-3 (54 mins)
This was a highly anticipated match between the experienced Mudge and
the number 1 seed. The match started with alot of hard hitting to ht
eback with both players refraining to go short. It went point for point
until Mudge made a couple of errors a crucial times, giving Rex the
game. The second game he seemed a changed man attacking with good
length and shot off to a 4-0 lead. However Rex drew back a couple of
points, but Jason stayed on top the whole time and took the game. The
third took a massive turnaround with Rex holding strong and Mudge
making about 8 errors, maybe showing his tiredness. The 4th was the
same and Rex took the match.
Paul Coll def Dan Busby 11-3. 11-3, 11-3 (15 mins)
This was over very quickly and showed the fitter Paul Coll taking the match
Another highly anticipated match, between the up and comer Egyptian and
another young player McErvale. The first game was full of hard hitting
length, suiting the faster courts, and saw Jamie take the lead int he
middle witht he Egyptian showing signs of fatigue and lack of movement
towards hte front right corner. The second game Jamie looked to do the
same but went too short too quick giving hte Egyptian lots of options
and saw him scrambling around. The third Jamie came out composed again
and used the front right corner as a weapon and took and early lead
whilst making Osama work hard. He never looked back from there. The 4th
was a turnaround with Osama playing some great short balls, but finally
moving better. Jamie took an early lead in the 5th and he found his
confidence from there and took the game convincingly.
Lewis Walters def Alex Grayson 13-11, 11-6, 11-7 (33 mins)
The young Alex Grayson coming back from injury showed signs of some
great form in the first game, but then slowed down in the next two.
Mike Corren def Joshua Southwell-Nobbs 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 (24 mins)
The tour veteran did what he had to, without getting too serious.
Matt Serediak def Joseph Watts 11-1, 11-6, 11-5 (19 mins)
Matt played extremely well, making Joseph work hard. He was on.
Tom Pashley def Cameron Stafford 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 (27 mins)
Tom showed signs of his experience holding the hard hitting Cayman
player, from getting too settled into the match. The match was filled
with some great short balls, but in the end Tom was too steady.
Kashif Shuja def Richard Birks 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 (30 mins)
Another veteran on tour showed his flare with his sensational volley
nicks in the first 3 points. However after that he was forced to rally
and work hard, and Richard used his effective length balls with some
short balls. In the end, Kashif just had another gear and took the
crucial points.
Round 2 - Amanda Lander Murphy def Stephanie Wighton 11-1, 11-7, 11-4 (13mins) Amanda was too strong here.
Alma Kusharanti def Kristen Nightingale 11-4, 11-9, 11-4 (18mins)
Even thought Alma doesn't play many WSA tournaments, she is a local
player who has been training here for a while and showed too much
strength for Kristen
Sarah Cardwell def Jessica Turnbull 11-2, 11-4, 11-8 (20mins)
A lot of hard hitting, but Sarah showed her strength over the up and coming Jessica
This was a quick match with Sam showing her experience over the junior.
This was an entertaining match with Larissa using the front of the
court very effectively, forcing Milou to work hard and use all her
experience to counter attack. However just at crucial points Milou held
steady and Larissa made the errors.
