Top Seeds Set For Kuwait Challenge by Howard Harding
31 May 2012
- Abdullah Al Muzayen and Omar Abdel Meguid, the top two seeds, will
contest the final of the Kuwait Open Challenger (Cup Martyr Fahad
Al-Ahmad) after coming through contrasting semi-finals in the PSA World
Tour Challenger 10 squash event at the South Surrah Ministries Complex
in Kuwait City.
Kuwait hero Al
Muzayen, the 24-year-old event favourite, took just 24 minutes to see
off third-seeded Australian Rex Hedrick 11-2, 11-5, 11-9 to reach the
13th Tour final of his career - and his second on home soil this year.
But the other semi
turned into a marathon battle in which India's fourth seed Harinder Pal
Sandhu prevailed in a first game tie-break to open up an early lead.
Meguid, ranked almost
50 places higher, reasserted his authority on the match to take the
next two games for the loss of just eight points.
The fourth also went
into extra points, but after 71 minutes it was second-seeded Egyptian
Meguid who triumphed 10-12, 11-4, 11-4, 13-11 to make his first Tour
final of the year, but the eighth of his career.
Born within 15 days of
each other, Al Muzayen and Meguid will be meeting in their second PSA
World Tour final in Kuwait after contesting the Jena International
climax in September last year.
