- The Asian Junior championships hit the business end of the tournament
in the wonderful Kish Island venue. Players have been fighting tooth
and nail to make it to the semi finals of what is the pinnacle event
within Asia.
In the Boys under 13 top seed
Ibrahim Abulaban of Jordan lost out to upcoming Tin Lok Lau of Hong
Kong and in the bottom half of the draw where the winner seems more
likely to come from Hammas Tararr from Pakistan will take on Jesse Foo
of Malaysia who brushed aside their opponents today.
In the Boys under 15 event
Mohammed Al Saraj had an easier day than yesterday scoring a 3-0 win
over local player Mohammed Ali Farhat. He will take on Ng Ka Yin after
he beat another local player Alireza Shameli who also received some
very local support the same as his brother did in the older age groups.
In the top half of the draw Robin Mann defeated fellow Indian Ranjit
Singh three games to one. Top seed Ng Eain Yow of Malaysia defeated
Velvan Senthilkumar again of India three games to love.
Boys under 17 saw two Indians
progress to the semi final players, first through was Kush Kumar defeat
an unheard of Pakistan player that is not easy when it comes to major
championships. For a place in the final Kush will play Chris Lo of Hong
Kong after he defeated his team mate Tsun Yuen Hei. In the top half of
the draw Malaysia looked to be heading for two semi finalists until
Vijay Kumar produced a good comeback to beat Syafiq Kamal three games
to two. Gurshan Singh of Malaysia completed the top four by defeating
Sandeep Ramachandren three one.
Boys under 19 saw the big four
move into the semi finals in what promises to be some big matches
tomorrow. Ali Bhokari began proceedings by beating Yueng Ho Wai of Hong
Kong and he will take on Mahesh Mangaonkor after he defeated Erfan
Jamshidi. In the top half of the draw Ahmed Al Sarraj defeated Cheuk
Yau Tang from Hong Kong. Despite losing the first game Al Saraj fought
back to take the next three. Top seed and defending champion Danish
Atlas Khan defeated Addeen Idrakie of Malaysia with plenty left in the
tank for tomorrows match.
All these matches were seen under the watchful eye of Mr Soleimani the
President of Iranian Squash who must be pleased to see all of his hard
work coming together on what has been a very well run event so far. Mr
Bazmoon the President of Kish Sports should also be given a special
mention for his help getting the event to Kish Island.
Women are expected to be fully clothed outside the court including a
head scarf something which initially amused us at first especially in
the airport but after a couple of hours and a lot of photographs
everybody has adapted to it very well. However this may sound strange
to some it is a great credit to the squash community and especially the
females that it has not affected their squash and that they have taken
to this with no problem at all.
