Declan James Wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month Award from Tour Media
June 28, 2015
- England’s Declan James has been named Player of the Month for July by
the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine, after enjoying
the best four weeks of his professional career in June.
The 22-year-old world no.64 won the $10,000 Christchurch International
Open and finished runner-up in the $15,000 New Zealand International
Classic.
James felt the upturn in results had been due to a combination of the
work he has been doing and the help of those around him – including
rugby league legend Ellery Hanley, coach Phil Whitlock and ESR
assistant national coach David Campion.
“With the help of my coach and England Squash we've been able to
clearly outline what I had to improve on and I've focussed and worked
hard on doing that, allowing the ranking and match wins to follow,
instead of focussing too much on the present,” said the British
under-23 champion.
“I'm a believer that if you think too objectively, it can detract from
the bigger picture and what will make you a better version of yourself.
“I’ve also had the great honour of being mentored by Ellery Hanley in
the last year or so and the things I've learned from him on the mental
side of the game have no doubt had a large impact.”
