Another day, another dollar, or to be precise, another ride and at
least 80+ miles. Giselle cooked breakfast, which was very interesting,
and delicious – fried bread with honey and bananas! We were following
highway 40 on the service road, which was incredibly straight but
undulating with some pretty long undulations!
Taking a good fast ride at these was a good thing to do, as you tended
to get up to the top slightly quicker! Mark was feeling the effects of
his accident and decided, wisely, to take a break and ride in the
wagon. We had 4 riders out and the youngsters were riding really well.
In fact they were really finding their stride.
Through Yukon, the birth place of Garth Brooks, but James said that
there were none of his songs on the radio. On through vast stretches of
crop land and still the ups and downs of the road. At times we had to
slow Jeremy and Giselle down as they were riding fast and way ahead. We
wanted to keep as close as we could but not stop some good riding.
We came across Overhalser Lake, which is on the outskirts of Oklahoma
City, and we were tempted to swim, but this was not allowed so we gave
it a miss! When I say outskirts I mean a good 20 miles from the City.
OK city has a huge area and stretches out from the center for some
distance.
We rode on and into the suburbs of OK City and James had us riders on a
circuitous route so that we could miss most of the traffic – long way
round though! Fortunately myself, Cristian and Sidd were directed onto
the Oklahoma river cycle way and we made arrangements to meet at Wiley
Post Park in Stockyard City.
The ride by the river was great, no cars and not that many cyclists,
and a wonderful view of the city skyline, so and easy and enjoyable
ride to the park.
We met up with the wagon and for the final miles went to the KOA Oklahoma East camp site.
