Elite Junior Squash Comes to Portland, Oregon from Squash Media
June 2, 2016
- The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC), Portland, Oregon are delighted to
welcome some of the top junior players from across the country in
August.
The MAC in conjunction with the Lloyd Athletic Club
will be hosting our very first junior gold event – the Rose Bud Gold
which will be held over the weekend of August 5-7. The addition of a
junior gold in Portland is a great augmentation to the regular gold
events held in the Bay Area.
As well as the new junior gold,
Head Pro Ashley Read and assistant Pro Julian Illingworth will be
hosting PDX high performance junior camps both before and after the
tournament.
Head professional Read stated “we are absolutely
thrilled to be hosting such a high caliber junior tournament here at
the MAC. Last year we had a successful junior silver event and a high
performance camp but the new gold level tournament certainly raises the
bar and shows not only Portland’s ambition but also that West Coast
Squash is really starting to thrive.”
Nine times US Champ
and assistant pro Illingworth added "Hosting a junior Gold event is a
great opportunity for our local players and parents to be exposed to
top caliber junior squash without the burden of travel. We're
pleased US Squash is allowing the location of junior events to be
spread more broadly, and the Portland squash community hopes to
continue this positive relationship with US Squash, and hold regular US
Squash sanctioned junior events to support all levels of junior squash
here in Portland."
Entries are now open, so far there are
juniors registered from not only the West Coast but also from the
Eastern US and even one entry from the current powerhouse of world
squash Egypt.
