Former Champion Brown Heading To Canberra from Squash365
June 8, 2012
- Former Australian Open squash champion Kasey Brown confirmed this
week that she will head to Canberra in August for the 2012 tournament.
Brown, who won the
Australian Open title in 2006, is the second top 10 player to sign up
for the 2012 tournament following Frenchwoman Camille Serme, the world
number eight.
“Kasey is a great
ambassador for Australian women’s squash and we are delighted that she
will be playing in Canberra,” tournament director Gary Hampson said.
“She is the last Australian woman to have won the title and will be one of the favourites to win it this year.”
The 26-year-old Brown, from Taree in New South Wales, is ranked 10th in the world but has been as high as number five.
She has won 11 titles
on the Women’s Squash Association tour, was a member of the Australian
team that won the Women’s World Teams Championship in 2010 and won a
gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Brown was Australian
Open runner-up in 2007 and 2008. The 2008 champion, New Zealand’s
Joelle King, will also be playing in Canberra this year.
The 2012 Australian Open will be held on the all-glass court at Canberra’s Royal Theatre from August 13-19.
The men’s event will be headlined by defending champion Ramy Ashour of Egypt.
