- In Pan American Games semifinal play, Amanda Sobhy beat Canadian No 1
Sam Cornett in four, and Olivia Blatchford upended 34-year-old Mexican
No 1 Samantha Teran in straight games, as the women's gold medal match
is set for Monday night between the long-time American rivals.
On the men's side, in earlier quarterfinal action, top Canadian Shawn
Delierre beat US No 1 Todd Harrity in a tight four-gamer, while world
junior champion Diego Elias of Peru topped Chris Gordon in a
competitive three.
In Sunday's late semi, Elias prevailed over Mexico's Cesar Salazar, who was forced to retire up two games to one.
Elias will square off for the men's gold medal against world No 4
Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia, who was a straight-set semifinal winner
over Canada's Delierre.
