- The Canadian junior men's team came up big in the match it had to
win, defeating Belgium 2-1 yesterday in the final round of pool play to
earn a coveted spot in the World Junior Teams knockout draw.
Canada will face Brazil today in the playoff round, with the winner taking on top-seeded Egypt in the quarterfinals.
#3 Zachary Leman continued his strong play in Qatar, as he led off with a straight game win over Belgium's Vincent Hitchins.
Canadian #1 Cameron Seth then was beaten in four by Jan Van Der
Herrewegen, setting the stage for the decider between #2's Tyler Olson
of Canada and Jordy Camps of Belgium.
Olson, of Victoria, BC, drew on the critical-match experience he
gained last year playing as a freshman for Harvard to seize the early
advantage over Camps and ride it home, as he won in a convincing three
games to propel Team Canada into the medal round.
