- For the second day in a row, number one American junior Dylan Murray
of Bronxville, New York, won the critical match 11-9 in the fifth, as
the US shut down France to earn a spot in the medal round of the 2012
World Junior Teams in Qatar.
Murray came from 2-1 down against French #1 Damien Volland, winning a
one-sided fourth to even the match before grinding it to the wire in an
exciting fifth game.
TJ Dembinski had put the Americans on the board with a straight-set victory over Baptiste Masotti in the number 3 lineup slot.
Following Murray's clincher, #2 Edward Columbia beat Alexandre Cogno in four.
In an essentially meaningless nightcap, the US rested Murray and beat Gautemala 3-0.
In today's 12-team playoff draw, the US team will play Kuwait, with the
winner advancing to the quarters and taking on England, which has a bye.
Brazil shocked France in the final round of pool play, sending the 7th-seeded Frenchmen to the losers' bracket.
US Head Coach Paul Assainte had this to say to DSR following the win over France:
We are playing quatamala right now
Edward 6-6 in 5th
But vs France the boys were superb
Dylan beat a great player on heart
Edward showed great composure and t j was dominant
Very upbeat win
So excited for Adam and boys
Hard work paying off ......... So far
