- The American men's team will face England today in the quarterfinals
of the World Juniors in a defining match for the US players and program.
Match time from Doha, Qatar is 6pm, which is 11am EST.
The US entered the team event seeded 6th, while England is seeded #3.
The Americans reached today's quarters with a 2-0 win over Kuwait
yesterday. After a slow start, Dylan Murray beat Yousef Saleh in a
54-minute four, after which TJ Dembinski rolled to a straight set win
over Athbi Hamad. The #2 lineup match between Edward Columbia and
Yousif Ali was unplayed.
Afterward, US Head Coach Paul Assaiante told DSR:
"I am so happy for Adam and the boys.
They have trained so hard and now they're in the elite 8 of the world.
Today against Kuwait, Dylan was masterful and ground down a fine player.
TJ sealed the deal, and tomorrow we play England.
Dreams do come true."
England had a bye yesterday while awaiting the US-Kuwait winner.
After a disappointing World Individuals performance last week in which
all four US team members lost in the round-of-64, the Americans have
been dominant in the team event, defeating Brazil, France, Guatemala
and now Kuwait without the loss of an individual match.
In fairness, the US has been favored in all of its team matches thus far.
England has beaten Belgium, Canada and Zimbabwe, also without the loss of an individual match.
Today's probable matchups:
#1's Oliver Holland v Dylan Murray
#2's Thomas Ford v Edward Columbia
#3's Richie Fallows v TJ Dembinski
Results:
US v Kuwait
Dylan Murray d Yousef Saleh 11-13 11-5 11-9 11-7
TJ Dembinski d JS Hamad 12-10 11-6 11-6
