Chelsea Piers Connecticut Celebrates Two-Year Mark by Erica Schietinger
(Stamford, CT – July 15, 2014)
–Since opening in July 2012, Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) has
established itself as one of the premier amateur sports and
entertainment complexes in the United States. In two short years, CPCT
has set a new standard in Fairfield County for competitive sports,
coaching and events for children and adults, continuing to expand and
adapt in order to meet the area’s demand for first-rate athletic
facilities and fitness programming.
Chelsea Piers
Connecticut began its second year with the announcement of a
65,000-square-foot expansion including a world-class 65,000-square-foot
membership health and fitness facility and clubhouse, slated to open
late Fall 2014. The new fitness facility and clubhouse is inspired by
the company’s highly-rated sports club in New York, and the
cutting-edge fitness programming will be unmatched in Fairfield County.
Chelsea Piers
Connecticut’s competitive athletic programs have also continued to grow
and add to their long lists of accomplishments, with a number of teams
and individual athletes earning recognition for their achievements
throughout the year:
The Chelsea Piers
Athletic Club (CP-AC) swim team had an incredibly successful year with
a number of individual swimmers setting state and National records.
Beginning in February, the CP-AC Swim team broke the 30-year old State
record and set a new one in the 200 freestyle relay. Following in
March, CP-AC won the Connecticut Age Group Championship and Combined
Team State Championship.
The Chelsea Piers
Junior Tennis teams also had a phenomenal year with successes at every
age level. At the district championships last August, the U8 teams
finished 1st and 2nd place, the U10 advanced team came in 2nd place,
the U12 teams came in 2nd and 3rd and the U18 team finished 3rd.
The one-year-old CP-AC
Volleyball U17 and U18 teams both had an impressive first year.
In addition to winning the Regional Championships in May, the teams
each qualified for Nationals, where they will head in 2015.
The CPCT Squash Club
also had several highlights over the past year, including a number of
notable tournament finishes by members of the club’s Elite Squash
Program (ESP). At the U.S. Junior Nationals in March, Marina Stefanoni
won the GU13 division, BU19 division player James Watson earned a place
at the trials for the U.S. Junior Team final selection, and five other
ESP members placed in the top ten of their respective age groups.
The Chelsea Piers
triathlon team, Full Throttle Endurance Racing, kicked off the 2014
season with an exciting showing at the South Beach Life Time Triathlon,
winning the overall Team Championship and claiming 21 individual
podiums with their impressive personal performances. Most recently, FTE
Racing competed in both the USA Triathlon Northeast Regional Team
Championships and the Stamford KIC IT Triathlon where the group won
both Team Championship and multiple podium finishes.
